Do we need to run the tap whilst brushing our teeth?

The simple answer is 'no'!

Water Savers do this:

  • Moisten toothbrush, fill a beaker with water to use for rinsing, then turn off the tap.

  • Add toothpaste to toothbrush, clean teeth, rinse using the beaker of water

For each minute taken to brush your teeth, you will have saved up to 10 litres of water! That's the same as five 2-litre bottles of milk.

Brushing twice a day, over a week you save between 140 and 280 litres of water, just by turning off the tap whilst you brush. That's equal to at least 70 large milk containers - a lot!

Water saving also saves you money if you are on a water meter, and helps save water for drinking and cooking.

Using water wisely helps our rivers have enough water in the summer when rainfall is lower, and that helps all the wildlife living in or by the river, like birds, fish and amphibians and invertebrates.
