So how does using less water help to save wildlife?

It feels like it has been raining for ever!

However, despite the long periods of rain and flooding we are having now, our underground water supplies are reducing overall due to our massive use of water.

In the Warwickshire Avon area, one third of our drinking water from Severn Trent Water comes from these underground water supplies. The underground supplies take time to refill, and we're using them faster than they're filling back up.

Increases in numbers of people also means we are using more water as a population.

What does that mean for wildlife?

Because we're taking more water from the environment, this can cause low levels of water in rivers, which means less water the creatures that live in our rivers and streams.

The water in our rivers provides homes for all sorts of animals like fish, frogs, newts, toads, snails, crayfish and small invertebrates. These animals form important parts of nature, and we need to make sure their habitats are safe.

One way we can do this is by taking small steps to reduce our individual water use.

Using our clean water wisely does help wildlife!
